In recent years, the American
Academy of Pediatrics has promoted the “Back to Sleep” campaign
to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Pediatric
Partners encourages all parents of newborns to always place their
infants on their backs to sleep. Your pediatrician will
discuss this with you at your infants well child checks.
Breast milk is best for your infant. Studies show that
breastfed babies have a lower incidence of allergies and ear
infections. It is important to remember that breast milk
is easily digested by your baby and he/she will want to eat more
frequently than a formula fed baby.
If you choose to feed your baby formula please do not change
your formula without discussing it with one of our providers
or the triage nurse. Formulas that are on the market today
are very gentle and closer to breast milk than previous formulas
had been. If your child is having difficulty with their
formula it may be as simple as giving your child a few days to
acclimate to the formula.
Frequent diaper changes are your baby’s best chance against
developing any diaper rashes. If your child does develop
a diaper rash try putting a thick layer of barrier cream (Destin,
A&D ointment, Butt Paste, etc) on the affected area with
every diaper change.
