    care of your child

    telephone triage

Our pediatric nurses are trained to answer your questions regarding your child’s illness symptoms.  They follow protocol approved of by our physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

If you have a question regarding your child’s illness symptoms during the hours of 9:00 am-4:30 pm on Mondays, Thursday s, Friday s or 9:00 am-5:30 pm on Tuesday s, Wednesday s or 9:00 am-11:30 am on Saturday s please call our office.  Our receptionists will take your name, child’s name, phone number and your question and one of our nurses will return your call.

Our nurses will go through your child’s symptoms with you and determine based on our approved protocol whether your child needs to be seen or if home care is sufficient.

Please remember that all phone calls are answered in the order they are received and dependent upon how many other phone calls are pending it may take some time to return your call.  We strive to answer each call every day, please leave a phone number that you can be reached at consistently during the day.  We will only try to call you a maximum of three times in a day and if it is a busy day clinic/phone call wise or you call close to the end of the business day you may only receive one call.  If our nurses are unable to reach you they may document for the providers that you had called but were not able to reach you at the telephone number that you provided.

For medication refill please have on hand the name of the medication, dose last prescribed and pharmacy.  For medicines that require written prescriptions please call us at least 24 hours in advance.

It is office policy to only keep written prescriptions on hand for 7 days.  If you have not picked up the requested written script in 7 days we will shred and document the destruction for non-pick up on the chart.

Questions regarding diagnosis of developmental concerns, behavior problems, or emotional concerns are not appropriate for the triage service and we ask that you call for an appointment if these are your concerns.

For questions regarding your child’s illness symptoms after office hours please call our office line and the answering service will place your call with our afterhour’s nurse triage call line which follows the same telephone protocol that our nurses use in our clinic.  Please remember the afterhours call service is not intended for refills of medications, concerns regarding development, behaviors, or emotional concerns.  This service is intended to only alleviate concerns regarding any acute illness problems that may arise during non-clinic hours.

    hospital services

If your child is ill enough to require hospitalization, Dr. Groppe & Dr. MacDonald alternate completing rounds on our patients at Fremont Area Medical Center.  They will round on your child in the a.m. before clinic and/or in the p.m. after clinic has closed.  The time/frequency of rounds depends on how ill your child is and when they are admitted for treatment.  They also round on all newborns born at Fremont Area Medical Center whose parents request Pediatric Partners be their pediatrician.

If needed Dr. Groppe and Dr. MacDonald will consult with specialists in Omaha at Children’s Hospital and/or Nebraska Health System regarding your specific case and will transfer to one of these facilities if it is in the best health interest of the child.
